Blackout in Mariupol after the drone attack: occupier bases hit at MMC

Темрява в Маріуполі після удару безпілотника: уражено бази загарбників на ММК.

Blackout in Mariupol and its consequences

On the night of January 13, a blackout occurred in Mariupol after a drone attack. As a result, a fire broke out in the Kalmius district, likely affecting the occupier bases at the Illich Metallurgical Plant (MMC). Power problems are observed in many areas of occupied Donetsk region, indicating possible consequences of the attack.

The head of the Occupation Research Center, Petro Andryushchenko, noted that the situation in the region remains critical. The blackout in Mariupol occurred against the backdrop of escalating tensions in the Donetsk region. It is important to note that on November 18, Denis Pushilin announced the introduction of a state of emergency in the Donetsk region due to a large-scale drone attack on the Zuivska and Starobeshivska thermal power stations.

Continuation of attacks and their consequences

This attack is not an isolated incident. For example, on the night of November 17, drones also attacked Donetsk, resulting in a city-wide blackout. At that time, powerful explosions were heard in Donetsk, likely affecting the Chaykino 330 kW substation, causing yet another fire visible from Makiivka. The situation in the region remains tense, as up to 90% of the housing stock was destroyed during the siege of Mariupol, and the population decreased from 420,000 to 100,000 residents.

This event becomes part of a broader context of military actions in Ukraine, where drone attacks on critical infrastructure have become commonplace. The escalation of the situation in the Donetsk region indicates the continuation of the conflict and its impact on the civilian population, which suffers from a lack of electricity and an exacerbating humanitarian crisis. In the face of constant attacks, the region requires urgent measures to restore infrastructure and support residents.
