On November 5, Ukrainians will have a unique opportunity to observe the closest supermoon to Earth in 2025 - the Beaver Supermoon. This is the second supermoon of this year, which will be located at a distance of just under 357 thousand kilometers from our planet. According to NASA, it will appear 14% larger and 30% brighter compared to a regular full moon.
The full moon occurs on November 4, and on November 5 it can be seen in the sky. The best time for observation will be on the evening of November 6, when it will be in the constellation Taurus near the star cluster Pleiades. To observe it, no special equipment will be needed, just a clear sky without clouds.
The name 'Beaver Moon' comes from the traditions of Native Americans and early European settlers who used the lunar calendar to determine the seasons. November received this name due to the activity of beavers and the end of the hunting season for them.
Also, in October, we had the chance to observe the supermoon known as the Hunter's Moon. This was the last of several supermoons in 2025, which appeared particularly bright due to its close proximity to Earth. Scientists from China studied the lunar soil samples brought back from the far side of the Moon. It turned out that the lunar soil samples contained complex components, with a basalt content ranging from 30 to 40%.
The Beaver Supermoon on November 5 will provide Ukrainians with a unique observational experience that is worth taking advantage of to enjoy the beauty of the celestial world.
