Bournemouth Appoints Marco Rose

Premier League club AFC Bournemouth has named German manager Marco Rose as its new head coach. He succeeds Spaniard Andoni Iraola, who announced his departure after a three-season tenure. Rose has signed a contract that will keep him at the club until the conclusion of the 2028/29 season.

Marco Rose, a native of Leipzig, has been without a managerial role since leaving German side RB Leipzig in the spring of 2025. His playing career included spells at Lokomotive Leipzig, Hannover 96, and Mainz 05. Rose began his coaching career as an assistant to Thomas Tuchel at Mainz before securing his first head coach position at Lokomotive Leipzig for the 2012/13 season.

Marco Rose's Track Record

In 2017, Rose took charge of the first team at Red Bull Salzburg, where he secured two Austrian Bundesliga titles and an Austrian Cup. His subsequent managerial career in Germany saw him lead Borussia Mönchengladbach, Borussia Dortmund, and RB Leipzig, where he won the DFB-Pokal and the DFL-Supercup.

This appointment comes as Bournemouth focuses solely on the Premier League for the remainder of the 2025/26 season, having been eliminated from both the EFL Cup and the FA Cup in the early rounds. With five matches left to play, the Cherries currently sit eighth in the table with 48 points.

The hiring of Marco Rose represents a significant move for a club with ambitions to solidify and improve its standing in England's top flight. His extensive experience in European football is seen as a major asset for the club's project. Bournemouth's current mid-table position shows a solid foundation but also highlights the need for improvement to challenge for European qualification in future campaigns.
