Chernihiv Region Without Electricity: Mass Drone Attacks Paralyze the Energy System of the Region
Chernihiv region is experiencing a critical situation with electricity supply due to mass drone attacks, as a result of which the region has practically lost most of its generation. Local residents are adapting to power outages while energy workers are trying to restore networks under the threat of new attacks.
The region is facing the most difficult electricity supply situation in recent years. After a series of mass drone attacks, Chernihiv has effectively lost most of its generation. Power outages have become the norm, with some areas lacking electricity for over half a day. A three-day attack by Russian 'Shaheds' occurred on a 110-kilovolt substation, leading to serious consequences. After the attacks, transformers at the substation caught fire, and the area was covered with debris from 'Geran-2' drones.
Unfortunately, as a result of subsequent strikes, two energy workers were killed. In the absence of electricity, Chernihiv Hospital No. 2 relies on a generator and several large batteries, but the hospital was forced to postpone some planned surgeries due to power supply issues.
Local residents express their frustration and exhaustion. One resident notes:
"There is no electricity - and it is impossible to plan anything. Even making ordinary tea is impossible. This exhausts everyone."Another adds:
"The goal is simple - a complete blackout of the civilian population. There is not a single military facility here."Medical workers also feel the psychological burden, as they 'live in the same conditions as the patients'.
In this difficult situation, people are trying to survive. 'We are surviving. We are not living. I heat with wood to avoid freezing,' says one resident. However, there is also optimism: 'We will stand firm this time. The Russians will not break Chernihiv.' It is important to support each other since it is not only the darkness in the apartments that is a problem but also the feeling of 'when the light goes out inside'.
Conclusions
This situation in Chernihiv reflects the general difficulties that Ukraine faces amid the war and constant attacks on critical infrastructure. Energy security is becoming an important aspect for maintaining stability in the region, and the resilience of local residents is a vivid example of civic courage in times of crisis. It is essential for government bodies and international partners to support efforts to restore energy infrastructure and provide humanitarian aid to the population affected by the attacks.
