The topic of foreign workers in Ukraine has recently sparked a wave of discussions on social media. It gained particular resonance after the situation in Ivano-Frankivsk, where local businesses confirmed the involvement of workers from abroad due to a shortage of personnel. This is reported by the Ukrainian Association of Companies for International Employment.

Labor shortages in Ukraine have become a problem

The association's president, Vasyl Voskoboynik, stated that Ukraine is already lacking working hands due to the war, mobilization, and the departure of millions of citizens abroad.

«The problem of a shortage of working hands in Ukraine is real. However, talking about a massive influx of foreigners today is incorrect,» the expert explained.

According to him, it is currently about targeted recruitment of workers in sectors where employers cannot find people.

How many foreigners work in Ukraine

According to official data, there are currently about 11 thousand foreigners legally working in Ukraine. In Prykarpattia, where the topic sparked the most debate, only a few dozen permits have been officially issued for Indian citizens.

Voskoboynik also emphasized that legal employment of a foreigner is expensive for businesses. Employers must process paperwork, provide housing and transportation. The costs for one worker can reach 150 thousand hryvnias.

Experts predict that after the war, the problem of personnel shortages will become even more acute, as Ukraine will have to rebuild its economy while competing for workers with EU countries.
