Ukrainians are increasingly choosing buses for trips to Poland due to affordable prices and a wide range of routes. However, such a journey can end up being many hours of waiting at the border, which negates all the advantages. This is reported by UNIAN.
Bus to Poland: why it is a popular option
Bus transportation remains one of the most convenient ways to travel abroad, especially for urgent trips.
Among the main advantages:
-
lower ticket prices compared to trains
-
a wide range of destinations in Poland and the EU
-
the possibility to buy a ticket even on the day of departure.
For example, a ticket to Warsaw by bus can cost from 1000 UAH, while a train ticket starts from 3200 UAH and higher.
Queues at the border: why delays occur
The main drawback of bus trips is unpredictable delays at the border.
The waiting time depends on several factors:
-
day of the week (weekends have significantly more people)
-
time of day (usually faster at night)
-
checkpoint.
However, even under favorable conditions, buses often wait in line for hours due to strict schedules and the inability to bypass.
During peak periods, especially in the summer or holidays, delays can reach up to 10 hours. Additional difficulties arise from checks of documents, biometrics, and border guard replacements.
Return journey and alternatives: what is better to choose
Interestingly, the return journey from Poland to Ukraine usually takes less time—sometimes 1-3 hours at the border.
Travelers are also advised to consider alternative routes:
-
through Romania
-
through Moldova.
There, crossing the border often takes significantly less time—from one to three hours.
In conclusion, a bus to Poland is a compromise between price and comfort. If time is critical, it is better to choose another option. However, if saving money is the main priority, one should be prepared for long delays and not plan important matters immediately after arrival.
We remind you that Ukrainian Lyubov Antonova reported her return at the Polish border after a long wait and checks. She spent almost 24 hours on the road and crossing the border. The reason for her return was a fine of 3000 zlotys from the transport company for missing weight control.
