The battles for control over the strategically important city of Pokrovsk are intensifying. In recent weeks, Russian units have begun to infiltrate the city and have cut off the last supply routes used to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to the publication 'Glavkom', the capture of Pokrovsk by Russia could help it advance towards the borders of the Donetsk region, which it aims to fully capture. However, Russian troops have been trying to encircle the city for a year.

“If Pokrovsk falls, it will become the largest urban area controlled by Russian troops since the capture of Bakhmut in 2023. The city is a hub for road and rail routes, and its capture would bring Russian forces closer to the larger cities of Kramatorsk and Kostiantynivka in the industrial region of Donetsk,” CNN emphasized.

It should be noted that Glavkom reported that the Russians are trying to infiltrate the Pokrovsk-Myrnohrad agglomeration and cut off Ukrainian supply routes. However, currently, no one is encircling or blocking the cities.

Summary

The battles for the city of Pokrovsk in Ukraine are intensifying as Russian troops attempt to capture this strategically important settlement. The potential capture of the city could aid Russia in advancing towards the borders of the Donetsk region, which is one of its goals. However, Ukrainian forces are holding the defense, and the city remains uncontested by Russian forces.
