Ukrainians can enjoy blueberries at more affordable prices as the harvest has intensified and supply has increased, causing prices for the berry in the country to start declining. According to EastFruit analysts, the average price of blueberries in Ukrainian farms has decreased by 25% over the past week.
Currently, blueberry prices range from 220 to 380 hryvnias per kilogram, which corresponds to 5.26-9.08 dollars. Previously, producers did not sell the berry for less than 300 hryvnias or 7.17 dollars per kilogram.
Last week, the supply of berries in the market significantly increased due to the start of mass harvesting by farmers. At the same time, the availability of large volumes of budget fruits and berries also affected the prices of blueberries and other seasonal products.
Price drop for blueberries: causes and consequences
Despite the price drop, blueberries remain generally twice as expensive as at the same time last year due to decreased yields caused by adverse weather conditions. Additionally, there is a decline in raspberry prices in Ukraine, which indicates an overall trend of falling berry prices in the country.
Ukrainians benefit from the drop in blueberry prices; however, the major market players explain this by a significant reduction in berry yields due to adverse weather conditions. The price drop is also observed in other berries, particularly raspberries, in Ukraine. This could affect the overall berry market of the country.
