Fuel Prices in Ukraine as of May 2026
As of May 5, 2026, Ukrainian filling station networks have updated their fuel pricing. The average price for A-95 petrol stands at 73 hryvnias per liter, while diesel fuel is priced at 88 hryvnias per liter. Since March 20, 2026, the 'National Cashback' program has been in effect, offering refunds on fuel purchases: 15% on diesel, 10% on petrol, and 5% on autogas. This initiative has been extended through May 31, 2026.
According to data reported by 'Glavcom', two fuel station chains have reduced their prices:
- gas decreased by 1 hryvnia;
- A-92 dropped by 1.10 hryvnias;
- A-95 fell by 90 kopecks;
- A-95+ declined by 20 kopecks.
The most expensive networks remain Okko, WOG, and Socar, while the cheapest fuel is offered by Ukrnafta and BRSM-Nafta.
Fuel Market Analysis
It is worth noting that diesel prices in Ukraine have surged by 33.9%. Since March, diesel supply volumes have remained at 2025 levels. Following the shutdown of Ukraine's largest oil refinery, 85% of light petroleum products now depend on imports. From February 26 to March 31, 2026, diesel prices rose by 86%, while import costs increased by 58%. According to the head of the Antimonopoly Committee, average gas station prices climbed by 39% between February 26 and March 31, with petrol rising by 16%.
“The primary objective factor behind the price increase is that, starting last year—specifically after the halt of the largest and essentially only oil refinery in Ukraine—nearly all light petroleum products, in percentage terms over 85%, rely on imported petroleum products.” - Pavlo Kyrylenko, Antimonopoly Committee representative
Serhiy Kuyun, director of the A-95 consulting group, states: 'There is no diesel shortage, nor is one expected.' However, experts point to several reasons why gas station prices may fluctuate, including rising demand, shrinking supply, higher logistics costs, and increased actual purchase prices for petroleum products.
For context, the maximum savings per liter under the cashback program reach 11 hryvnias for diesel, 7 hryvnias for petrol, and 2 hryvnias for autogas. As of May 1, 2026, the maximum monthly compensation per user is capped at 500 hryvnias.
The Ukrainian fuel market situation highlights a heavy reliance on imports, driven by the closure of the largest refinery. This, in turn, fuels ongoing price increases, especially for diesel. While the 'National Cashback' program may partially ease the financial burden on consumers, market changes remain unpredictable due to shifts in supply and demand.
