Analysts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) have examined the recent statements made by Russian leader Vladimir Putin regarding Ukraine and the negotiations. According to their analysis, Putin continues to express Russia's lack of interest in peace talks with Ukraine, accusing Kyiv of failing to produce results and minimizing the losses of its army.
'Putin reiterated the same demands he first made in June 2024, which once again demonstrated Russia's uncompromising position and its disinterest in negotiations to end the war with Ukraine,' the analysts noted.
In particular, Putin is trying to convince the West of his active participation in peace negotiations, but experts believe that he is likely defining the parameters of Russia's negotiation position himself. In turn, Ukrainian officials continue to express interest in peace while ignoring negative statements from Moscow.
Forecast for the Future
According to the ISW analysis, rejected fictional claims by Putin about the 'illegitimacy' of Ukrainian authority may lead to Russia refusing any peace agreement with Ukraine in the future. Moreover, the study emphasizes that dictators have expressed satisfaction with the pace of advancement of Russian troops at the front while downplaying the losses of the Russian army.
