Belarusians are massively joining the Russian army: every fifth does not return

Citizens of Belarus are increasingly signing contracts to serve in the Russian army, as reported by the joint investigation of 'Sledstvo.Info', the 'Belarusian Investigative Center', and activists of KibOrg, according to 'Glavkom'.



According to the data received, from 2022 to 2025, 1,031 Belarusians became military personnel in Russia. The number of contracts signed has been increasing every year: from six in 2022 to 157 in the first half of 2025.




  • In 2022, only 6 Belarusians signed contracts;

  • In 2023, their number increased to 235;

  • In 2024 – to 518;

  • In the first half of 2025 – 157.



According to the project 'I Want to Live', only in the first half of 2025, 596 Belarusians signed contracts, which is almost 100 times more than in 2022. The losses among them are also significant: over 10% have died, and 8% are considered missing.



Among Belarussian soldiers who joined the Russian army, almost every fifth did not return. Experts note that Hepatitis B and C, as well as HIV, are prevalent on the front lines in Ukraine, and although there is an order prohibiting military personnel with confirmed diagnoses from being on the front line, many continue to fight.



The signing of contracts by Belarusians to serve in the Russian army has significantly increased in recent years. According to the investigation data, more than 10% of them have died, and 8% are considered missing. Experts point to the spread of infectious diseases among military personnel and the negligence of prohibitions sending sick individuals to the front.
