When preparing for a trip, most tourists pack a standard set of items — documents, a first aid kit, gadgets. However, experts recommend adding one unexpected item to the suitcase — a kitchen rolling pin. And not for baking, but for taking care of one's own body. This is reported by the Daily Mail.

What is a rolling pin needed for during a flight

According to Moyer Wellness, a regular rolling pin can become a simple but effective remedy for discomfort after long flights. It is called a «handheld massage roller» that relieves tension, improves blood circulation, and helps avoid leg cramps. Traveler Nina Malkin shared: «I don't bake on vacation, but often wake up with cramps in my legs and sleep with a rolling pin by the bed».

During flights, the body undergoes several typical stressors:

  • Swelling and pain in the legs caused by inactivity in tight seats.

  • Dehydration due to dry air in the airplane cabin.

  • Pressure changes causing joint stiffness.

Massage with a rolling pin can relieve these symptoms in a matter of minutes. Simply roll it over the muscles for 1 minute, focusing on sensitive points while avoiding bony areas.

The rolling pin can also be used for foot reflexology — rolling it under the feet from heel to pad. If the sensation is too intense, it is advisable to place a towel on top for a softer effect.

To avoid overloading the suitcase, experts recommend taking a lightweight plastic rolling pin — easy to carry, compact, and safe on the go. This life hack has already become popular among travelers who value comfort even at an altitude of 10,000 meters.
