Holodomor 1932-33: How the Kremlin Planned to Destroy the Ukrainian Nation

Голодомор 1932-33: Система геноцида проти українського народу.

Why were Ukrainians killed by famine?

In 1932-1933 and in 1921-1923 and 1946-1947, Ukraine experienced a famine and mass artificial famines. These terrible events were the result of a deliberate genocide, planned in the Kremlin, which involved the forced confiscation of food, blockades of villages, and repression. This was done with the aim of destroying Ukrainians as a political nation.

The famine was retribution for Ukrainians' desire to preserve their freedom, property, identity, and to restore their state. Modern Russia, the successor of the imperialist Russian Empire and the USSR, also employs genocidal practices, including the destruction of infrastructure, shelling of residential buildings, torture of prisoners, and mass killings in the occupied territories.

We call to honor the deceased with a moment of silence and to light a Memory Candle at 16:00 – Ukraine remembers.

Despite the war, Ukraine continues to fight and develop. And while it is not easy, the Ukrainian people believe that they will withstand and become a prosperous and happy state.

The history of famines in Ukraine is a horrific example of political genocide that caused immense human tragedy. Honoring the memory of the deceased and acknowledging the events of the past help not only to honor the victims but also to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
