Information about an emergency failure at the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant, which could have led to a disaster, is fake. This was stated by the Center for Counteracting Disinformation, as reported by 'Glavkom'.
«Disinformation is spreading in the media, allegedly claiming that Kyiv «concealed the emergency failure» at the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant, which could have led to a disaster. This message is actively retransmitted by Kremlin propaganda», – the CPD reported.
It is indicated that after verifying the information, NNEGC 'Energoatom' confirmed: «These statements do not correspond to reality. The South Ukraine NPP is operating normally, as confirmed by IAEA reports. The report from July 4 only mentions an emergency disconnection of the power transmission line at the Zaporizhzhia NPP due to shelling. The report from July 1 also mentions drone attacks around and near nuclear power plants, including the South Ukraine NPP».
Russian propaganda uses disinformation to discredit Ukrainian energy security
The CPD added: «Claims about the alleged «concealment» of information regarding the situation at the South Ukraine NPP have nothing to do with reality. All nuclear facilities in Ukraine are under constant control of IAEA inspectors, who have access to all NPPs and regularly report on the situation at the plants».
According to the information provided, Russian propaganda uses such disinformation to discredit Ukrainian energy security and attempts to incite panic among the population.
In July 2021, information about an emergency failure at the South Ukraine NPP appeared online, which was refuted by official sources. This confirms the threat of disinformation and the importance of verifying the authenticity of information before disseminating it.
