Kyiv's Darnytsia CHP Plant Launches Major Overhaul Following February 3rd Attack

Київська ТЕЦ Держможливостей розпочала масштабне оновлення після події 3 лютого.

Darnytsia CHP Plant Recovery Effort

Kyiv's Darnytsia Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant has initiated a major reconstruction project following the severe damage inflicted by an attack on February 3, 2026. The work, which is being carried out in multiple phases, is currently focused on clearing debris and assessing the damage to structural components. According to a statement from 'Euro-Reconstruction' LLC cited by 'Glavcom', the most critical areas for immediate repair have already been identified. This facility is a critical piece of Kyiv's infrastructure, and its restoration is a top priority for the city's basic services.

Debris removal is being conducted concurrently with initial construction activities. The company is funding the recovery measures using its own financial resources and material reserves, and has also contracted with external organizations to assist. Some of these contractors have already begun their work. The total cost of the restoration and a definitive completion timeline have not been disclosed due to security concerns.

Current Status of the Plant

Despite the challenges, the plant's workforce has been retained in full, with all employees reassigned to recovery tasks and continuing to receive their full salaries. Preliminary assessments indicate the facility sustained critical damage; restoring the equipment and systems will require at least two months, provided there are no further attacks. Prior to the attack, the Darnytsia CHP supplied heating to more than 1,100 apartment buildings. On the morning of February 3rd, water was drained from the heating systems in these buildings to prevent pipes from freezing.

Various estimates regarding the cost and duration of the repair work have circulated publicly. This information is considered sensitive, as the CHP plant is a critical infrastructure asset.

"The enterprise cannot detail the technical aspects of the restoration," noted 'Euro-Reconstruction' LLC.

The restoration of the Darnytsia CHP is a vital step in re-establishing Kyiv's heating supply, as the plant plays a key role in the city's life-support systems. The ongoing work demands significant resources and effort, but its successful completion will restore stable heating for thousands of the capital's residents. This situation underscores the vulnerability of critical infrastructure during military conflict and highlights the necessity of robust contingency planning for such emergencies. The attack is part of a wider pattern of strikes on Ukraine's energy grid, which have caused widespread disruption.
