Investigation Launched into Man's Death at a Territorial Recruitment Center
Ukraine's State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has initiated a pretrial inquiry into the death of a 29-year-old man who passed away after being held at a Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center (TRC and SSC) in the Transcarpathian region. The case was opened following public outcry on social media and in the press, which raised concerns about possible physical violence. The man's death has prompted a criminal proceeding under a statute addressing abuse of power by military officials during martial law, which carries a penalty of 8 to 12 years in prison.
According to preliminary investigative data, while inside the military enlistment building, the man repeatedly complained of feeling unwell. As his condition worsened, he was taken to a hospital twice for medical treatment. The exact cause of death will be determined after forensic medical examinations are completed. The incident has been entered into the Unified Register of Pretrial Investigations under an article of the Criminal Code of Ukraine concerning the exceeding of authority by military personnel under martial law conditions.
Separately, the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Lviv recently sentenced a student from the Lviv State University of Life Safety for inflicting severe injuries on a worker at a territorial recruitment and social support center during a conflict. Reforms of the territorial recruitment and social support centers are planned to follow salary increases for military personnel and adjustments to service terms.
