State Bureau of Investigation Reports First Four Months of 2026
Over the period from January to April 2026, the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) documented offenses totaling 7 billion 125 million hryvnias in damages. The bulk of these losses stems from revenue shortfalls linked to customs fraud, irregularities in public procurement, and mismanagement of state property.
Illicit gains, including bribes, exceeded 13.8 million hryvnias. To secure compensation, authorities have seized assets worth over 494 million hryvnias from suspects. So far, more than 341 million hryvnias have been returned to the state budget.
Official Misconduct and Draft Evasion
Additionally, SBI agents have charged officials from a department of the Mykolaiv Regional Territorial Recruitment Center and Social Support (RTCC&SP). These individuals are suspected of involvement in a scheme to evade military mobilization. The investigation highlights serious shortcomings in resource management and legal compliance.
These findings underscore the scale and severity of challenges facing Ukraine's public resource management system. The detected fraud not only inflicts substantial financial harm but also raises concerns over oversight in state procurement and customs processes. The seizure of assets and recovery of funds demonstrate the government's efforts to combat corruption and rebuild public trust in state institutions.
The ongoing battle against corruption in Ukraine is further emphasized by recent actions taken by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). In a related case, the dismantling of an embezzlement scheme targeting the national grid operator, which involved $11.8 million in misappropriated funds, highlights the critical need for enhanced oversight in public sector operations. This incident not only reflects the systemic issues within resource management but also the ongoing efforts to restore accountability in state institutions.
