Pavlo Shpehun’s Directorial Debut at Venice

Ukrainian actor Pavlo Shpehun has stepped behind the camera for the first time with a short film titled 'Silence,' which has been selected for the Orizzonti Short Films competition at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival. The film explores a psychological drama centered on themes of loneliness, loss, and human connection, marking a major milestone in the young artist’s career. Screenings of 'Silence' are scheduled for September 10 and 11.

'Silence' is Shpehun’s inaugural directorial project. He is best known for his work at the Ivan Franko National Academic Drama Theater, with one of his most notable stage productions being 'Tiger Hunters' at the Golden Gate Theatre. The film’s protagonist, Luka, works as a stand-up comedian, adding a distinctive and contemporary edge to the story.

It is a great honor and responsibility to represent Ukraine at the Venice Film Festival with my first directorial work. The mere fact that 'Silence' has become part of the competition program is a huge victory for our entire team.
