Charges Filed Against Zhashkiv City Council Member
Prosecutors have formally charged a deputy from the Zhashkiv City Council for submitting false information in her 2024 asset declaration. The document omitted 18 land plots, along with undeclared dividend income and funds held in bank accounts. The total value of the undisclosed assets exceeds 5 million hryvnias. This case is part of a broader crackdown on financial dishonesty among public officials in Ukraine.
Over the past two weeks alone, the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) has sent five substantiated reports to law enforcement agencies. Two of these involve administrative offenses, while three point to potential criminal violations. The undeclared assets in these cases range from over 890,000 hryvnias to more than 24.5 million hryvnias.
Administrative Penalties for Officials
Courts have imposed administrative penalties on four officials. Specifically:
- A forester in the Lviv region failed to declare assets worth over 857,000 hryvnias;
- A forest master in the Lviv region omitted assets valued at over 787,000 hryvnias;
- A police officer in Kyiv did not disclose assets exceeding 4.8 million hryvnias;
- A deputy of the Mohyliv-Podilskyi City Council left out assets worth over 974,000 hryvnias.
Additionally, the NACP has sent a substantiated conclusion to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine regarding a juror from the Kelmentsi District Court in Chernivtsi region, who failed to declare assets exceeding 5.2 million hryvnias.
This case highlights the critical importance of adhering to asset declaration laws for public servants in Ukraine. A lack of financial transparency can have severe consequences not only for individuals but also for society at large, undermining trust in state institutions.
Investigations into such cases are part of ongoing efforts to combat corruption and enhance accountability among officials.
