Olympic champion and State Duma deputy Svitlana Zhuróva expressed outrage over the insufficient funding of Russian sports, which may lead to the loss of talented young athletes. She emphasized that many young athletes and their parents are considering the possibility of moving abroad due to the lack of attention and support from their own country, which could affect the country’s sporting potential.
«The reserve is underfunded, they receive less attention, so they are tempted to go abroad. That is, we have prepared good children, juniors, and they and their parents think: «Why not move to another country?» We are losing ready material. It’s just like with scientists, who can be tempted by some perks. I would definitely pay attention to this. What hinders the development of Russian professional sports? I think it’s the lack of funding. Still, more attention needs to be paid,» Zhuróva stressed.
It is also worth noting the participation of Russian speed skater Oleksandra Sayutina in events that violate the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee regarding neutral athletes. This raises questions about the influence of politics and propaganda on sporting events and the selection of athletes. In the future, this may affect athletes' participation in international competitions and the country's image in the sports world.
