The State Service for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience has filed a lawsuit in court to terminate the activities of the Moscow church, which is recognized as affiliated with the Russian Orthodox Church. This information was reported by the head of the State Ethnopolitics, Viktor Yeleński.
According to Yeleński, the lawsuit was filed with the Supreme Administrative Court on August 29. If the injunction is not complied with, the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience is required to declare the Kyiv Metropolitanate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church affiliated with the banned in Ukraine Russian Orthodox Church.
“If such a decision is made by the court, the Kyiv Metropolitanate of the UOC will lose its legal entity status and lose legal personality, which will mean that the parishes of this church will not have a center,” he noted.
The head of the DESS noted that the termination of the activities of the Kyiv Metropolitanate of the UOC will not mean the automatic closure of all parishes and communities. Each parish may remain independent and operate autonomously, and does not necessarily have to transition to another church.
The Ukrainian State Service for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience has filed a lawsuit in court to terminate the activities of the Moscow church, which has ties to the Russian Orthodox Church. If the court grants the lawsuit, the Kyiv Metropolitanate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church may lose its legal entity status.
