An Interview with David Axelrod

Ukrainian singer David Axelrod has discussed his family's reaction to the coming out of his wife Olena Mozhova's daughter, Zoya Mozhova. Axelrod emphasized that the family responded with understanding and support.

“We reacted to her announcement in a completely normal way. For us, it wasn't something that required a dramatic reaction or discussion. It's her life, her choice. Support is what matters most,” he stressed.
The singer added that Zoya likely would not have spoken so openly about herself if she did not feel supported by her family.

Relationships with Olena Mozhova's Daughters

David Axelrod spoke about his relationship with Olena Mozhova's daughters, whom he has known since they were children of 7 and 10 years old. He noted that both daughters work in different fields:

  • Zoya is involved in the arts, working as an artist;
  • Zhenya has chosen a path related to finance.

Zoya and Yevheniia Mozhovi currently live in Germany and Dubai, respectively. David Axelrod and Olena Mozhova have a daughter together, Solomiia, who also has creative interests and enjoys drawing.

It is worth noting that on April 5, a memorial concert for composer-songwriter Mykola Mozhovyi titled 'Mozhovyi. The Best' was held at the National Palace of Arts Ukraine. David Axelrod performed at the concert alongside the Academic Ensemble of the National Guard of Ukraine. The song 'Defenders' was performed as part of the program.

The supportive response from David Axelrod's family to Zoya Mozhova's coming out highlights a progressive approach to identity and acceptance in contemporary society. Such family support during pivotal life moments can be crucial for an individual's self-confidence, particularly regarding personal expression. This case serves as a positive example for other families who may face similar situations. In many cultures, public figures discussing family support for LGBTQ+ members can help normalize these conversations.
