Легендарний біатлоніст Дмитро Підручний продовжує боротьбу на етапах Кубка світу.

Dmytro Pidruchnyi's Career Continues

Ukrainian biathlete Dmytro Pidruchnyi has confirmed he will compete for another season, sharing his decision and future plans while also addressing changes within the Ukrainian national team's coaching staff. As team captain, Pidruchnyi participated in his fourth Olympic Games during the 2025/26 season, starting in six events. He finished within the top 20 in three of his four individual Olympic races.

At 34 years old, Pidruchnyi admits he has long considered retirement. In mid-April, he ended a decade-long collaboration with his former coach, Juraj Sanitra. For the upcoming season, he has been selected for the main team, which will now be led by new senior coach Serhii Semenov. Pidruchnyi made his World Cup debut in the 2012/13 season and has spent 14 years competing at that elite level. His career highlight came in 2019 when he stood atop the podium as World Champion in the pursuit race.

'I've said for a long time that I make my decision season by season. Of course, thoughts about ending my career are always there; I think every athlete has those thoughts.' Dmytro Pidruchnyi

Pidruchnyi noted that he still feels he brings value to the team and will only seriously consider retirement when younger athletes start consistently outperforming him. 'As long as I'm still useful and the younger generation can't beat me, why should I end my career?' he remarked.

New Coaching Staff and Fresh Approaches

The Ukrainian national team has also overhauled its coaching staff and finalized its squad rosters for the 2026/27 season. Pidruchnyi expressed a desire to experiment with new training methods and stated he retains the motivation to push forward: 'We'll see how everything unfolds in the future. But right now, I have the motivation to keep moving, to keep working.' His comments underscore a determined commitment to continue his athletic journey and pursue further achievements.

Pidruchnyi's decision to continue is significant for the Ukrainian squad, as his experience and leadership qualities can substantially aid in developing younger biathletes. The coaching changes may also provide the team with fresh perspectives, as new training approaches could lead to improved results on the international stage. As captain, Pidruchnyi has the opportunity not only to share his expertise but also to mentor emerging athletes, potentially boosting the team's chances in future competitions. His longevity in the sport is a testament to his dedication and resilience in a demanding winter discipline.

As Pidruchnyi prepares for the upcoming season, the changes in the coaching staff are significant. The recent appointment of new head coach Serhiy Semenov may bring fresh strategies and renewed energy to the team, potentially influencing Pidruchnyi's performance and the overall dynamics of the Ukrainian biathlon squad.
