Mercedes driver George Russell became the winner of the Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix, confidently converting pole position at the 'Red Bull Ring' track. The Brit controlled the race from start to finish and secured his second victory in the 2026 season.
Russell did not give up the lead to opponents
Russell maintained the first position after the start and throughout the entire distance did not allow competitors to take the initiative. After a series of pit stops, he remained ahead and without mistakes brought the race to victory.
Max Verstappen finished in second place, having made a comeback after a poor start, while third place went to the overall standings leader Kimi Antonelli.
Ferrari left without a podium
Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, who started from high positions, could not contest for the victory. Due to the pace of their rivals and the specifics of the racing strategy, they finished the stage outside the top three.
The victory allowed Russell to reduce the deficit to the championship leaders, although Kimi Antonelli maintained the first position in the personal standings after the Austrian stage.
