EES at the Border with Romania: Digital Entry System to Start Operating on December 10

Нові технології переходу кордону: Запуск електронної системи вводу з 10 грудня.

Implementation of the Digital EES System at the Border with Romania

From December 10, 2023, the digital entry and exit system EES will start operating at the border with Romania. This system previously functioned from October 12, 2023, at the 'Solotvyno - Sighetu Marmației' checkpoint. The implementation of the EES aims to accelerate border control, enhance security, accurately monitor the duration of foreigners' stay in the EU, and combat illegal migration.

Available Crossings and Control Procedures

At the checkpoints where biometric data can be collected, the following crossings will be available:

  • Dyakivtsi - Rakovec
  • Krasnoilsk - Vikhova de Sus
  • Dyakove - Halmeu

It is important to note that the 'Porubne - Siret' point will connect to the system only from January 9, 2026. The EES system includes procedures for passport scanning, face photography, and fingerprint collection for citizens of third countries. Children under 12 will not provide fingerprints, simplifying the control process for families with children.

The introduction of the digital EES system is an important step in modernizing border control and meets European safety and accounting standards.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy of the European Union to strengthen border control and combat illegal migration.

The implementation of digital technologies in this area can not only increase the efficiency of checks but also reduce waiting times at the border, which will be an advantage for travelers and businesses. Additionally, the EES system will help EU countries better control the duration of foreigners' stay in their territory, which may impact immigration policy in the future.
