Gudaf Tsigay's Suspension
Gudaf Tsigay, a four-time world champion and Olympic medalist from Ethiopia, has been handed a four-month ban by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU). The suspension stems from the detection of a letrozole metabolite in a doping sample collected on December 5, 2025, during an out-of-competition test. The 29-year-old runner had taken the medication to treat infertility, but failed to secure a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) before the test.
Letrozole, whose metabolite was found in Tsigay's sample, is listed as a prohibited substance by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). After the positive finding, the athlete applied for a retroactive TUE, but WADA rejected the request due to procedural violations. The disqualification period runs from June 1 to September 30, 2026, and all of Tsigay's competitive results from December 5, 2025, onward have been annulled.

Tsigay has amassed ten World Championship medals, including gold in the 5,000m and 10,000m events. She also holds the current indoor world record for the 1,500 meters and was previously the world record holder in the 5,000 meters.
