The Polymer Sector in Russia is Experiencing Stagnation

Production and processing of polymers in Russia has been in a state of stagnation since the beginning of the war against Ukraine in 2022.

The Ukrainian Foreign Intelligence Service reported that production indicators in this sector continue to deteriorate and are falling into the negative.

'According to the index of production output in 30 subsectors of plastics and rubber, a decline is observed in 18... The worst dynamics was shown by the PVC segment - minus 13 %', - noted the intelligence.

The industry faces problems such as a lack of domestic equipment, a gap between scientific research and implementation, a shortage of qualified personnel, and low labor productivity. In the first half of 2025, 874 companies were closed.

'Demand is decreasing, and a weak ruble, high key rate, and high interest rates on loans are hindering investments in the renewal of production capacities...', - reported the intelligence.

Experts point out that for manufacturers of polymer packaging, this means increased costs and rising prices for products.
