Marlos Steps Into a New Position
Marlos has officially started working as the technical coordinator for youth teams at the Brazilian club Parana. This appointment marks a significant milestone in the career of the 37-year-old former winger, who previously played for Shakhtar Donetsk and Metalist. Having spent a decade in Ukraine and competed in the Ukrainian Premier League (UPL) from 2012 to 2022, Marlos—also a former Ukraine international—brings a wealth of experience to his new role.
In 2017, he obtained Ukrainian citizenship and made his debut for the national team. Over the course of his international career, he earned 27 caps and scored one goal. After officially retiring from playing on May 1, 2024, Marlos remains deeply involved in football, now transitioning into a coaching and development capacity.
Responsibilities and Youth Development Focus
His duties in this new position focus on nurturing young athletes and fostering their personal growth. As Marlos himself put it,
“I want to share my experience to help raise not just athletes, but also well-rounded individuals.”
Parana's senior team currently competes in the second division of its state league after being relegated from Serie D. In addition to his new role at Parana, it is worth noting that Marlos also served as the general director of the club Sao-Josense. On a related note, the Ukrainian Association of Football (UAF) has shortlisted two candidates for the head coach position of the Ukraine national team, including Myron Markevych and Andrea Maldera.
This new appointment underscores Marlos' commitment to shaping the future of football, particularly through mentoring young talent. His extensive professional experience is expected to play a key role in developing the next generation of players capable of elevating the club to higher competitive levels. As the team aims to climb back into more prominent leagues, the technical coordinator position becomes especially critical.
