Ex-Chief of Kropyvnytskyi Military Recruitment Center Under Investigation
The Southern Defense Specialized Prosecutor's Office in Kirovohrad, in coordination with investigators from the Mykolaiv Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigation, has notified the former head of the fourth department of the Kropyvnytskyi Regional Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support (RTCS) of suspicion regarding false asset declarations. This action follows a comprehensive review of his declaration by the National Agency for Corruption Prevention (NACP).
The 2024 declaration failed to disclose three vehicles registered under the suspect's wife. Specifically, these include:
- A 2021 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid valued at over 1 million hryvnias;
- A 2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross worth 1.2 million hryvnias;
- A 2014 Volkswagen Touran valued at 88,600 hryvnias.
The official's wife also purchased a new Mitsubishi using funds whose origin could not be verified, amounting to over 593,000 hryvnias.
Additionally, the declarant omitted an income of 200,000 hryvnias received by his wife from the sale of a Kia Cerato. Based on these facts, the former head of the Kropyvnytskyi RTCS is accused of an offense under Part 1 of Article 366-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The Importance of Financial Transparency
False asset declarations represent a serious offense that can indicate corruption risks within state authorities. This case highlights ongoing efforts by Ukrainian law enforcement to prioritize financial transparency and hold public officials accountable, reinforcing the country's broader anti-corruption measures.
In a related case highlighting the issue of asset concealment among public officials, a court secretary in Uman has been found guilty of hiding real estate valued at over 5.4 million hryvnias. This case underscores the critical need for transparency in financial declarations among state authorities, as it reflects broader systemic issues similar to those faced by the former military enlistment office head in Kirovohrad.
