Iran's Leadership Divided: Factions Open to Secret Deals with the West, Expert Claims

Різні політичні групи в Ірані обговорюють можливість укладення таємних угод із західними державами, стверджує експерт.

The Situation in Iran

International security expert Tamirlan Vagabov, speaking on political analyst Yuriy Romanenko's broadcast, stated that Iran's leadership is not unified on the nation's future course amidst escalating tensions with the US and Israel. Vagabov described an ongoing internal political struggle involving various factions, including hardliners, as well as groups willing to engage in backroom deals and partially dismantle military programs.

Vagabov noted that among these factions are opportunists and groups taking a wait-and-see approach, who are attempting to find openings to reach agreements with the West or with Israel. 'I think there are also opportunist, wait-and-see factions who are most likely thinking about how to reach a plane of agreement with the West or with Israel,' the expert emphasized.

He also warned that without adequate measures, there is a threat of preserving the old regime with a new face, which, he said, would make it even stronger and more legitimate. 'If you don't do this, then you will leave the old regime with a new face, in fact, even stronger and even more legitimate,' Vagabov added.

Criticism of Trump Administration Strategies

Furthermore, the expert criticized potential plans by the Donald Trump administration for limited strikes on Iran, which would involve swift action against Iranian infrastructure without the intent of toppling the regime. Vagabov believes such a strategy may fail to achieve the desired results and could lead to a worsening of the situation.

“You see, we've rubbed all their noses in it”

Thus, the situation in Iran remains complex, with numerous factions holding differing views on the nation's future direction under conditions of growing tension with international players. These internal divisions occur as Iran faces critical decisions regarding its nuclear program and regional influence.

Amidst this internal political struggle, Iran faces challenges that could significantly impact its foreign policy and relations with the West and Israel. The diversity of factions and their conflicting interests suggests Iran could either continue its confrontational stance or seek opportunities for compromise. These developments could have serious consequences not only for the region but for global politics, particularly regarding Middle Eastern security dynamics.
