Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Plant Unit Back Online

Energoatom has completed a scheduled preventive maintenance overhaul on one of the power units at the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant. Following the successful completion of repair work, the unit has been reconnected to the national power grid, and the process of ramping up its output is currently underway. The maintenance was finished four days earlier than planned, allowing for an additional 70 million kWh of electricity to be generated.

2026 Maintenance Campaign Kicks Off

This milestone marks the beginning of the 2026 maintenance campaign, which started in April. As part of this initiative, Energoatom is carrying out scheduled repairs at all nuclear power plants located in territory controlled by Ukraine, including:

  • Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant
  • Rivne Nuclear Power Plant
  • Pivdennoukrainska Nuclear Power Plant

Company representative Pavlo Kovtonyuk commented:

“We have an annual repair plan coordinated with the Ministry and Ukrenergo, and we are sticking to it. During this campaign, we are performing scheduled maintenance at all nuclear plants: conducting inspections, replacing equipment that has exhausted its service life, and reloading fuel.” - Pavlo Kovtonyuk

The early completion of the preventive maintenance at the Khmelnytskyi NPP underscores Energoatom's commitment to ensuring the stable operation of energy facilities and boosting their efficiency.

This achievement is a critical step in strengthening Ukraine's energy security, especially amid ongoing challenges. The additional 70 million kWh of electricity will help improve the stability of the country's power system. Subsequent repairs at other nuclear plants are also aimed at maintaining the reliability of energy capacities across Ukraine.

The successful early reconnection of the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant to the national grid not only enhances Ukraine's energy supply but also sets a positive precedent for upcoming maintenance efforts across the country.
