European Union Credit Support for Ukraine
The European Union will sign an agreement on February 24 to provide Ukraine with credit support totaling €90 billion. This substantial financial package is structured to address two critical areas of need.
- €60 billion for defense capabilities.
- €30 billion for macro-financial assistance.
The signing ceremony will take place during a special parliamentary session commemorating the anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. This timing underscores the EU's continued solidarity with Ukraine as the conflict persists.
On February 11, 2026, the European Parliament endorsed the provision of this credit package to Ukraine for the 2026-2027 period. The vote saw 458 members in favor, with 140 opposed. The first tranche of the loan is scheduled for disbursement in early April.
Allocation of Funds
The €60 billion portion is designated for strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities and procuring military equipment. Priority will be given to products from Ukraine's own defense-industrial complex, as well as manufacturers from the EU and the European Free Trade Association. The remaining €30 billion is allocated for macro-financial assistance to support the state budget through the Ukraine Facility program.
This agreement represents a crucial step in supporting Ukraine amid ongoing military conflict and economic challenges. The EU's commitment of such significant funding highlights Ukraine's strategic importance to European security and its integration ambitions. Providing resources for both defense and budgetary support will help bolster the country's resilience and stabilize its economy during this difficult period.
