The EU is preparing a decision on the use of Russian assets to aid Ukraine

The European Union plans to make an important decision regarding the use of frozen Russian assets for financial assistance to Ukraine. This was stated by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and President of the European Council Antonio Costa after the meeting of EU leaders in Brussels.

Costa stated that the issue remains relevant and is still on the agenda. He emphasized that at this stage, no country has opposed the initiative. 'Firstly, today no one has vetoed anything,' noted the President of the Euro Council.

The leaders also discussed the technical details of using the assets during an informal dinner with the participation of Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank. Costa noted that work on this issue will continue, and the final decision is planned for December. He emphasized that 'all technical issues can be resolved.'

The EU supports the idea of using the assets for loans to benefit Ukraine

The President of the European Commission confirmed that the EU aims to create a mechanism for using frozen Russian assets for financial assistance to Ukraine. Von der Leyen emphasized that this idea is being implemented, and now it is necessary to decide how to do it best. She stressed that the EU supports Ukraine in matters of defense and security and called for finding an optimal way to ensure assistance.

It should be noted that Belgium requires three guarantees for the use of Russian assets.

EU representatives have taken a positive step towards using Russian assets for financial support to Ukraine. The discussion of technical details and support for the initiative indicate support for this decision among EU member states. The final decision on the use of the assets is scheduled for December, which opens new opportunities for financial assistance to Ukraine amid Russian aggression.
