U.S. Aviation Authority Issues Alert for Flights Over Mexico and Central America

Американська авіаційна служба направила попередження щодо польотів над Мексикою та Центральною Америкою.

FAA Issues Advisory to Airlines

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued an advisory urging airlines to exercise increased caution for flights over Mexico and Central America. This notice, effective from January 16 for a period of 60 days, cites potential military activity and GPS signal interference as primary threats to flight safety in these regions. Such advisories are a standard tool for managing risks in international airspace.

The FAA has also disseminated specific notices to airmen (NOTAMs) concerning the airspace of Mexico, Central America, Ecuador, Colombia, and a portion of the eastern Pacific Ocean. This action is part of ongoing safety measures; previously, the FAA imposed flight restrictions in the Caribbean region following U.S. military action against Venezuela.

Guidance for Air Carriers

Airlines are therefore recommended to maintain heightened vigilance and account for these new risks when operating flights within the mentioned airspace.

The update to these safety protocols demonstrates regulatory readiness to respond to shifts in the geopolitical landscape that could impact air traffic and passenger security. Given the potentially dynamic situation in these areas, air carriers must be prepared to adapt their flight routes and procedures to meet emerging challenges.
