FAA Grants Certification for Boeing 737 MAX 10

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has officially certified the Boeing 737 MAX 10, marking the final regulatory milestone before the aircraft enters commercial service. As the largest variant in the 737 MAX lineup, this model has attracted significant attention, with a total of 1,555 orders placed by more than 30 different airlines and leasing companies worldwide.

The development and certification process for the 737 MAX 10 spanned nearly nine years, largely extended due to the enhanced safety requirements introduced after the 2018–2019 crashes that reshaped regulatory standards. The comprehensive flight test program included close to 1,000 flights accumulating over 2,000 hours, alongside 1,000 hours of ground testing. A key focus of the evaluation was the improved angle of attack detection system, known as eAoA.

Specifications and Leading Operators

Designed to carry between 185 and 210 passengers, the 737 MAX 10 boasts a maximum range of up to 3,100 nautical miles (5,740 kilometers). It offers a 20% reduction in fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions compared to earlier models, making it a more environmentally friendly choice. Notably, it delivers a longer range without the need for additional fuel tanks compared to rival aircraft, and Boeing reports it achieves the lowest cost per seat in its category.

WestJet of Canada will be the launch customer, having ordered 60 aircraft directly and an additional 13 through leasing arrangements. Meanwhile, Ryanair has placed a provisional order for up to 300 units of the 737 MAX 10, anticipating the arrival of its first 16 planes in early 2027. With the recent certification of the 737 MAX 7, all four main versions of the 737 MAX family are now fully approved.

Boeing continues to expand its order book as it competes with Airbus, reflecting sustained demand for innovative and efficient commercial aircraft.

This certification opens new avenues for airlines aiming to update their fleets with greener, more cost-effective planes. Given the rising demand for air travel and tightening environmental regulations, the successful introduction of the 737 MAX 10 is poised to influence the aviation market significantly. The initial deliveries to WestJet and Ryanair are expected to play a crucial role in the industry's recovery post-pandemic and support ongoing growth in air transportation.
