According to the proposal by Finance Minister Riikka Purra, the Finnish government is considering the possibility of canceling the compensation paid to municipalities for the integration of refugees and asylum seekers. This decision will most affect Ukrainians who are under temporary protection, reports Yle.

According to data, there are currently about 46 thousand Ukrainians under temporary protection in Finland. This year, two-thirds of the budget for integration services for Ukrainians is being spent, and next year it is planned to spend up to three-quarters of all funds.

  • educational courses on familiarization with Finnish society and customs.

Integration of immigrants after the cancellation of compensation

Even after the cancellation of compensation for integration, the responsibility for this process will remain with municipalities in Finland, which may become a burden on financing these services. A final decision will be made after the autumn debates in Parliament.

Turku's integration services manager Tiina Rahimi Ahmadi emphasized that complications in integration could negatively impact society, as integration is viewed as a key element of successful integration. Unavailability of participation in community life may lead to unemployment and lack of language skills.

The Finnish government is considering the possibility of canceling the compensation paid to municipalities for the integration of refugees and asylum seekers. This change may affect Ukrainians who are under temporary protection in the country. The amount of funds allocated for integration services for Ukrainians may also decrease. After the cancellation of compensations, municipalities will continue to bear the responsibility for the integration of immigrants, which may lead to difficulties in financing these services and the overall process of integration into society.
