The state of Florida is set to become the first in the US to abolish all mandatory vaccination requirements, including for school students. The idea, proposed by the state surgeon general Joseph A. Ladapo, is already sparking discussions among politicians and medical professionals. Governor Ron DeSantis, who supports this initiative, acknowledged that its repeal will require legislative approval.

Wide Political Discussion

This decision by Florida has led to a division of the state into 'red' and 'blue' states. Some Democratic regions have already announced the formation of an alliance to maintain their vaccination requirements and ensure access to vaccines for their residents.

Public health professor James Colgrove described the initiative to cancel vaccination requirements in schools as 'catastrophic.' Florida gubernatorial candidate David Jolly called for the firing of the state surgeon general, labeling his proposal as a threat to public health.

A sharp debate has arisen in the state of Florida regarding the cancellation of vaccination requirements in schools, leading to a division of political positions and warnings from experts about potential public health consequences.
