Limitations of the 'eCradle' Program
Launched at the start of 2026, the 'eCradle' program does not provide compensation for sole proprietors, known as FOPs in Ukraine. This initiative is designed exclusively for salaried employees who are returning to work from maternity leave. Consequently, sole proprietors are ineligible to apply for this specific financial assistance.
Payments under 'eCradle' are available only to full-time salaried workers. A key requirement for receiving the 8,000 UAH is the formal act of returning to a job, a condition that does not align with the status of a self-employed individual. Since sole proprietors work for themselves, they do not 'return to work' as defined by the country's Labor Code.
Petition Drive and Public Response
An online petition is currently gathering signatures to advocate for changes to the 'eCradle' program's rules. This indicates public interest in revising the program's terms, though for now, sole proprietors remain excluded from its scope.
The restriction of the 'eCradle' program to salaried employees has generated mixed reactions among entrepreneurs, many of whom believe they should also be included in the support mechanism. The petition drive may signal potential future shifts in state policy regarding support for small business owners, which could impact the broader socio-economic situation. This program is part of Ukraine's efforts to support workforce reintegration, yet it highlights a gap for the self-employed. Business owners hope for a review of the program's conditions to gain access to support during challenging economic times.
