Strike on Russian Oil Processing Facility
Ukraine's General Staff has confirmed a successful attack on the Orsknefteorgsintez refinery in Russia's Orenburg region. The facility caught fire after being hit. With a design capacity of 6.6 million tons of crude oil per year, this plant produces over 30 different petroleum products. Such facilities are critical for supplying Russia's occupation forces. The extent of the damage is still being assessed.
Ukrainian Defense Operations
In addition, Ukrainian defense forces destroyed a Tor-M2 surface-to-air missile system near Oleksandrivka in the Zaporizhzhia region. In Lysychansk, Luhansk region, they struck a command post of an enemy artillery brigade. They also eliminated an ammunition depot near Kremenivka in Donetsk region and a base for enemy boats in the Black Sea.
On April 29, drones targeted the oil refinery in Orsk, Russia, located over 1,400 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. The unmanned aircraft also reached Perm, where they attacked an industrial site, sparking another fire. Since the start of the full-scale war, Ukraine's defense forces have more than doubled the range of their deep strikes into Russian territory. In 2022, Ukrainian forces could hit targets at about 630 kilometers; today, their long-range capabilities extend to roughly 1,750 kilometers.
These strikes highlight a significant shift in Ukrainian tactics, enabling operations far from the front lines and targeting key enemy infrastructure.
Improved accuracy and range in striking targets could severely disrupt logistics and supply chains for Russian troops, potentially altering the course of combat. Such actions also demonstrate Ukraine's readiness not only to defend its own territory but to actively engage the enemy on their soil.
The recent attack on the Orsk oil refinery is part of a broader strategy by Ukrainian forces to enhance their operational reach. This aligns with a significant escalation in Ukrainian military actions, which have targeted not only critical infrastructure but also military assets, marking a pivotal shift in the conflict's dynamics.
