European Council President Charles Michel supported the idea of ending the membership of the aggressor state, the Russian Federation, in the United Nations Security Council.
A mechanism for terminating membership should be established. Michel said this in an interview with the Russian TV channel RTVi, according to 'RBK-Ukraine'.
'International law is lacking if a permanent member of the UN Security Council, in this case Russia, grossly violates international law. In my opinion, a mechanism for terminating membership should be established: I am not talking about a complete exclusion of Russia, but at least about terminating Russia's membership in the Security Council,' said the head of the European Council.

According to him, this is allegedly 'impossible' now, as it would 'lead to a deadlock in the concept of UN security.'
'We have seen well that before the start of hostilities in Ukraine, the UN security concept was already struggling and facing many difficulties in functioning when addressing major international issues. I am among those who believe that sooner or later reforming the operation of the UN will be mandatory,' said Michel.
In September, Russia used its veto during a vote on a resolution demanding the immediate withdrawal of Russian occupying troops from Ukraine at a UN Security Council meeting.
Last month, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on Russia's payment of reparations to Ukraine.
Ukraine will demand Russia's exclusion from the UN Security Council. Steps are currently being prepared in this regard, said Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba.
