During the fifth day of the National Bank of Ukraine’s delegation activities at the IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok, Governor Andriy Pyshnyi actively participated in both the plenary session and the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC) meeting. Accompanied by his deputies, he held discussions with leaders from the World Bank as well as the central banks of Sweden and Syria. The delegation also took part in an investment forum hosted by Bank of America, focusing on pressing macroeconomic challenges facing Ukraine.

Conversations with World Bank representatives centered on several critical issues, including:

  • The economic consequences of Russian military aggression against Ukraine
  • Ukraine’s urgent external financing requirements
  • Strategies to mitigate risks linked to ongoing conflict
  • Reforms in the public banking sector
  • Enhancing corporate governance standards
  • Expansion of the non-bank financial market

Engagements with regional financial leaders explored Ukraine’s economic outlook, the resilience of its banking system amid war, and the operational experience of the POWER BANKING network.

The NBU delegation also held bilateral talks with Erik Thedéen, Governor of Sweden’s Riksbank, and Sawfat Raslan, Governor of Syria’s central bank. With Thedéen, discussions focused on Ukraine’s economic conditions and the banking sector’s stability. Dialogue with Raslan covered the development of payment infrastructure and fostering cooperation between Ukraine’s and Syria’s central banks.

Additionally, First Deputy Governor Serhii Nikolaychuk and Deputy Governor Volodymyr Lepushynskyi participated in the Bank of America investment conference. Nikolaychuk and Deputy Governor Yurii Heletii also met with Commerzbank representatives to discuss the future of Ukraine’s banking sector, its integration into the European financial space, and progress toward joining SEPA.

In closing, the National Bank expressed strong interest in deepening collaboration with international financial institutions, advancing payment infrastructure, and broadening Ukraine’s financial sector integration with Europe. These initiatives are vital for maintaining financial stability and supporting economic growth amid current challenges.
