Andriy Pyshnyi Meets with EU Ambassador

According to НБУ: During a recent discussion with Kateryna Maternova, the European Union’s Ambassador to Ukraine, Andriy Pyshnyi, Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, stressed the crucial importance of honoring commitments made to international partners, particularly the EU and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He highlighted that maintaining these obligations is vital for securing Ukraine’s financial resilience amid ongoing attacks by the Russian Federation targeting critical infrastructure.

Advancing EU Financial Regulations in Ukraine

Efforts are underway to align Ukraine’s financial sector with European Union standards. Notably, legislative updates are planned to enhance anti-money laundering measures, incorporating a risk-based approach towards politically exposed persons (PEPs). These reforms aim to meet the criteria required for Ukraine’s accession to the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), facilitating seamless euro transactions.

Pyshnyi urged against any decisions that could be interpreted as stepping back from Ukraine’s commitments related to European integration, the IMF memorandum, and the Ukraine Facility program.

He also highlighted the robustness of Ukraine’s banking system, which continues to absorb the shocks of full-scale war while supporting the economy. Business lending has grown by over 30% year-on-year, demonstrating the financial sector’s capacity to sustain uninterrupted services under challenging conditions.

This dialogue and Pyshnyi’s remarks underscore the indispensable role of international support in maintaining Ukraine’s financial stability during armed conflict. The ongoing adoption of European financial standards and proactive legislative efforts reflect Ukraine’s determination to integrate into the European economic framework, which is expected to positively influence the country’s recovery and growth prospects.

In light of these developments, the ongoing support and reform initiatives discussed during the NBU's online conference with global partners further emphasize the importance of international cooperation for Ukraine's economic stability. These efforts align with the commitments highlighted by Pyshnyi, showcasing a unified approach towards enhancing the country's financial framework amidst ongoing challenges.
