The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed protest regarding the illegal entry of the head of the Russian government, Sergey Kiriyenko, into the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

This is yet another gross violation of international law and Ukrainian legislation, the Ministry's message says.

'This step by the Kremlin also demonstrates its complete disregard for the demands of three resolutions of the IAEA Board of Governors, which require Russia to immediately withdraw its military personnel and other staff from the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant so that Ukrainian competent authorities can restore full control over the plant and ensure nuclear and physical safety during its operation,' said the Foreign Ministry.

They hope for effective and efficient efforts from IAEA member states, as well as from Director General Rafael Grossi, to counter Russia's crimes against Ukraine's nuclear facilities.

'We call on partner states and EU institutions to accelerate the introduction of effective measures in response to the ongoing criminal actions of the Russian Federation against nuclear facilities in Ukraine, including expanding sanctions against the Russian state corporation Rosatom, its affiliated companies and institutions, as well as other key players in Russia's nuclear energy sector. We separately emphasize the urgency of developing mechanisms for the complete cessation of cooperation with the Russian Federation in the field of nuclear technologies, as well as limiting the rights and privileges of the Russian Federation in the IAEA,' the statement emphasizes.

In September, the IAEA released a report following the inspection at the Zaporizhzhia NPP. The situation is unprecedented, they wrote.

Russian occupiers have turned the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant into a military base, putting the entire continent at risk, said Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.
