Hasidic pilgrims are gradually arriving in the city of Uman to celebrate the Jewish New Year - Rosh Hashanah. As of September 15, 2025, over three thousand faithful have arrived in the city, and a total of about 50 thousand pilgrims are expected for the holiday. This was reported by 'Glavcom' citing Suspilne Cherkasy.
To ensure the safety of pilgrims, checkpoints and video cameras are already being installed. The PR director of the International Charity Fund named after Rabbi Nachman, Anastasia Baryshnikova, noted that this will help control access to places of mass gatherings.
What is Rosh Hashanah?
Rosh Hashanah is the celebration of the beginning of the new year for Judaism, lasting two days - from September 22 to 24. For Hasidim, it is a time of reflection on the past, repentance, and prayers. Uman is a key place for Hasidim due to the tomb of Rabbi Nachman, the founder of Breslov Hasidism. Praying at the grave of this rabbi grants believers spiritual purification and forgiveness of sins for the whole year.
Ukraine and Israel have developed a special security plan for Hasidim arriving in Uman to celebrate Rosh Hashanah. The plan includes the involvement of dozens of police officers, paramedics, and volunteers who will work to ensure the safety of pilgrims.
