Iran's UN Accusations Against the US and Israel
Iran's UN Ambassador, Amir Saeid Iravani, has formally accused the United States and Israel of carrying out attacks on civilian infrastructure within Iran, citing extensive damage and casualties. This accusation was made during a UN session focused on wartime losses, highlighting a conflict that has drawn in multiple regional and global powers. According to Iravani, the conflict has resulted in over 1,300 fatalities and the destruction of 9,669 civilian sites, including:
- nearly 8,000 residential buildings
- commercial centers
- medical and pharmaceutical facilities
- schools and educational institutions
Iravani specifically detailed a strike on February 28th against a primary school in southern Iran, which he stated killed at least 168 children and 14 teachers. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced a preemptive strike against Iran on the morning of that same day. Following his statement, a series of explosions were reported in Tehran.
Furthermore, strikes on fuel storage facilities in Tehran and other cities occurred overnight from March 5th to 7th, leading to significant air pollution. Morning rains on March 8th spread the contaminants, prompting Tehran's medical centers to go on high alert and residents to be advised to stay indoors.
Statement from Donald Trump
Amidst these developments, former US President Donald Trump commented on the situation, stating:
“Based on what I’ve seen, Iran did this.” - Donald Trump
These incidents underscore the severe regional tensions and the devastating humanitarian impact on civilians. The ongoing conflict between Iran and its adversaries shows signs of dangerous escalation, raising international concerns about broader Middle Eastern stability as civilian casualties and infrastructure damage mount.
