Update on Iryna Mudra's Legal Case
Former Deputy Head of the Presidential Office, Iryna Mudra, has paid the full bail amount of 20 million hryvnias. Despite this, on September 28, the High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) rejected her request to alter her pre-trial detention, keeping her in custody. Mudra's lawyers revealed that approximately 13 million hryvnias were successfully deposited into the court's account, but transferring the remaining funds was hindered by banking issues.
Breakdown of Bail Funding Sources
The 20 million hryvnia bail was gathered from multiple individuals and entities, including:
- Iryna Mudra herself: 5,937,000 hryvnias;
- Poliarush P.V.: 2,700,000 and 1,700,000 hryvnias;
- Maria Viktorivna Skaballanovich: 2,400,000 hryvnias;
- Maltex-M LLC: 500,000 and 490,000 hryvnias;
- Mykola Vitaliyovych Kuznets: 700,000 hryvnias;
- Vladyslav Leonidovych Galkin: 692,359 hryvnias;
- Kateryna Serhiivna Zhehlova, Svitlana Anatoliivna Chaika, and others: approximately 692,350–692,359 hryvnias each.
Mudra's legal team attempted to process the bail payments through over ten banks. Defense attorney Artem Krykun-Trush commented:
"Friends, colleagues, and Mudra's civil partner tried to transfer the funds via more than ten banks."
The prosecutor opposed any modification of Mudra’s detention status, advocating that she remain in custody. Mudra herself expressed willingness to surrender her passports, wear an electronic monitoring bracelet, and comply fully with court-imposed conditions.
Meanwhile, Petro Poroshenko's attorneys filed petitions with the HACC, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, and the Prosecutor General's Office. They urged these bodies to officially recognize Poroshenko as a victim in Mudra's case and to open a criminal investigation into alleged judicial pressure. Sources suggest Mudra may have attempted to influence judges through Igor Dashutin, head of the Administrative Cassation Court.
The High Anti-Corruption Court ultimately denied the defense’s request to change Mudra’s preventive measure, meaning she will stay in detention. This decision has sparked widespread public attention and intensified discussions about justice and corruption challenges in Ukraine.
Cases involving senior officials consistently attract public scrutiny because they highlight the critical need for transparency and accountability within government institutions. The court’s refusal to adjust Mudra’s detention underscores the gravity of the allegations and the importance of strict legal procedures. At the same time, Poroshenko’s legal team’s demands point to possible political complexities underlying this investigation, adding further layers of difficulty to Ukraine’s ongoing fight against corruption.
As the legal proceedings continue, the implications of Iryna Mudra's case extend beyond her personal situation. The ongoing debates surrounding judicial integrity and the role of political figures in legal matters are becoming increasingly prominent.
