Ireland reduces housing for Ukrainians to 30 days: what will change

The Irish government has decided to shorten the stay of Ukrainians in state accommodation from 90 to 30 days, as the country is experiencing a significant influx of refugees. Since February 2022, over 120,000 Ukrainians have arrived in Ireland, needing housing. Now, working Ukrainians must contribute financially to cover living expenses.



Irish Minister of Justice Jim O'Callaghan supported this decision, seeing the rationale behind such contributions, but the details of implementation still require discussion


Some public figures and politicians have expressed their concerns about reducing the stay of Ukrainians in state housing to 30 days. The organization Doras fears that this could lead to homelessness, as 90 days is the minimum necessary time for finding alternative housing.



The Ukrainian ambassador to Ireland, Larysa Gerasymko, noted that last year, the costs for accommodating Ukrainian refugees amounted to over 2 billion euros, but state support for housing has significantly decreased.
