ISW: Lavrov resorted to old threats against Ukraine not by chance

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Sergei Lavrov, issued another nonsense about the aggressor country's desire to 'denazify' and 'demilitarize' Ukraine.

He also complained that the West continues to support Ukraine in its struggle against Russian aggression. Such statements from Lavrov may indicate intentions to push the international community for negotiations on Moscow's terms. This was reported by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) in a new report.

The Russian minister is convinced that the Kremlin will continue to seek a military solution to the war until the Ukrainian government 'capitulates to Russia's demands.'

Analysts noted that Russia's demands for 'demilitarization' are aimed at depriving Ukraine of the ability to resist further attacks from the occupiers, while demands for 'denazification' are equivalent to calls for a change of power in Ukraine.

Lavrov believes that Ukraine and the West will 'recognize' Russia's capture of the Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions. At the same time, he shifted the responsibility for Russian aggression onto Ukraine and the USA.

'Lavrov's call for a military resolution of the war in Ukraine, which would allow achieving Russia's initial military goals, follows intentionally vague statements from Russian President Vladimir Putin that Russia is open to negotiations,' the analysis states.

However, experts are confident that the dictator's comments were not an offer to negotiate with Ukraine, and he did not set serious conditions for negotiations.

Earlier, Sergei Lavrov stated that Russia's proposals for 'demilitarization' and 'denazification' of Ukraine and the elimination of security threats are better fulfilled 'voluntarily.' Otherwise, the question will allegedly be resolved by the 'well-praised' Russian army.
