The first of 17 new low-floor trams took to test rides in Kamianske. By the end of 2026, the city expects another five cars, and the rest of the batch is to be delivered over the next year. This is reported by Nas Reporter.
When will Kamianske receive all 17 new trams
The first car was delivered to the city by a special truck on July 15. During the week, the technical services of KP 'Transport' prepared it for operation, and on July 22, the tram first went out on the line for testing.
According to the delivery schedule, by the end of 2026, Kamianske is to receive a total of six new cars. Thus, after the first tram this year, another five are expected.
The remaining 11 cars are to arrive in 2027. After the completion of deliveries, the new equipment will operate on all four tram routes in the city.
Daily, around 20 trams run on the line in Kamianske. Therefore, the arrival of 17 cars will allow for the renewal of the electric transport fleet by nearly 85%.
What the new tram for Kamianske will be like
The single-section car was manufactured by the Dnipro enterprise 'Tatra-Yug'. The model features a low floor, a spacious cabin, air conditioning for passengers and the driver, as well as a ramp at the second doors.
The design was adapted to the local tram network. The manufacturer took into account steep ascents, descents, and turns, the passenger flow in Kamianske, and the technical capabilities of the municipal enterprise.
«Everything is new, convenient to operate. The driver's cabin has air conditioning, as does the cabin. There is a ramp for people with disabilities at the second doors,» said driver Natalia Honcharenko.
After the testing is completed, the first car will likely start transporting passengers on route No. 1. The exact date of its entry into regular service has not yet been announced.
Who finances the purchase of trams in Kamianske
The cars are being purchased as part of the international project 'Urban Public Transport of Ukraine - II', which Kamianske was included in based on the results of a nationwide competition.
The European Investment Bank finances 80% of the cost of the new equipment. The remaining 20% comes from the city budget. The enterprise 'Kamet-Steel' from the 'Metinvest' group also provided assistance in co-financing the city.
It should be noted that in Dnipropetrovsk region, the cost of travel on one of the most popular intercity bus routes has increased. Passengers now have to pay more for a trip between Kamianske and Dnipro.
