Kyiv's Valeriy Lobanovskyi Avenue to Undergo Major Overhaul, Impacting Traffic Flow

Валерія Лобановського приведе до покращення дорожньої інфраструктури в Києві.

Major Renovation for Valeriy Lobanovskyi Avenue

A major reconstruction project for Valeriy Lobanovskyi Avenue in Kyiv's Solomianskyi District is set to begin on April 18, leading to temporary traffic restrictions. This thoroughfare, originally constructed in 1971, connects the Solomianskyi and Holosiivskyi districts and forms part of the city's Small Ring Road. Its last major overhaul was conducted over two decades ago. This renovation is part of Kyiv's ongoing, multi-year effort to modernize its urban infrastructure and transportation network.

The first stage of work will focus on the even-numbered side of the avenue, from Maksyma Kryvonosa Street to Andriya Holovka Street, and is scheduled to last until approximately May 29. The full project is expected to be completed within the next year. The total length of the section undergoing renovation is 2.8 kilometers.

Project Scope and Traffic Restrictions

The renovation plan includes:

  • Laying a new two-layer asphalt concrete surface;
  • Renewing sidewalks;
  • Installing bicycle lanes;
  • Laying stormwater drainage;
  • Repairing pedestrian crossings;
  • Upgrading the external lighting network.

Pedestrian crossings will be made more accessible with lowered curbs and tactile paving for navigation.

In a separate but concurrent project, traffic on the Southern Bridge (Pivdennyi Bridge) will be partially restricted from April 17 to 20. From 7:00 PM on April 17 until 7:00 PM on April 20, crews will repair the asphalt concrete surface on the bridge section heading from the right to the left bank of the Dnipro River. During this work, traffic will be diverted to the far-left lane. Contraflow traffic will be organized on the opposite side: one lane toward Holosiivska Square and two lanes toward Chokolivskyi Boulevard.

It is worth noting that a technical meeting in early March 2026 confirmed that the Paton Bridge, a locally significant architectural monument, remains operational provided certain usage restrictions are observed.

The capital repair of Valeriy Lobanovskyi Avenue aims to improve Kyiv's infrastructure, specifically enhancing safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

Upgrading the road surface, sidewalks, and adding dedicated bike lanes are expected to reduce accident rates and increase comfort for all road users.

In addition to the upcoming renovations on Valeriy Lobanovskyi Avenue, traffic changes are also expected on Kyrylivska Street in the Podil District due to repair works. These simultaneous projects highlight Kyiv's commitment to improving its infrastructure, although they may lead to increased congestion in various areas of the city. Stay informed to navigate the changes effectively.
